Active and previous members

Your next of kin or representative should contact us as soon as possible to inform us of your death.

If you leave an eligible survivor or dependant(s) then any entitlement or amount due will be calculated. The rules and regulations regarding the calculation of survivor's or dependant's benefits are complex and can vary according to your circumstances and the dates of your Scheme membership. Please see survivor's pensions for further information.

A death grant may also be payable depending on your circumstances. Please see Death Grants and nomination forms.

If you require more detailed information regarding the amount of survivor's or dependant's benefits which may be payable, please contact the Pensions Office via mypension online services. However, it will not be possible to provide precise figures.

We will establish all of the above when we are notified of your death so it is very important that we are contacted immediately to avoid any delay paying any dependants benefits which may be due.  


Pension members

The pension being paid to you will stop at this point.

If you leave an eligible survivor or dependant(s) then any entitlement or amount due will be calculated according to your status at retirement. The rules and regulations regarding the calculation of survivor's or dependant's benefits are complex and can vary according to when you retired and when you were an active Scheme member. A death grant may also be payable depending on how long you have been receiving your pension and when you retired. Please see our section Death Grants and nomination forms.

If you require more detailed information regarding the amount of survivor's or dependant's benefits which may be payable, please contact the Pensions Office via mypension online services.

Tell Us Once

Tyne and Wear Pension Fund (TWPF) participates in the Government's "Tell Us Once" (TUO) Service which may be offered to the person dealing with your affairs as part of the Registrar's service.

It is important that the deceased's National Insurance number is provided to the TUO if this service is used, to ensure that our Pensions Office are directly informed of the death of anyone receiving a pension from us. If the National Insurance number is not quoted we will not be notified of the death.
